Neil Kilkenny returns to Elland Road on Saturday for the first time since leaving to join Bristol City in the summer and he insists that he never wanted to leave Leeds.

Kilkenny left Leeds in the summer, after three and a half years at Elland Road.

The Australian international failed to agree new terms at the club and left on a free transfer at the end of his contract.

The 25 year old feels disappointed to have left Elland Road, stating he loved his time with the club. Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Kilkenny said, “I didn`t want to leave and I made that clear so many times last season.
“I had three-and-a-half years with the club and I loved my time there.
“The way it all finished was really disappointing and I thought my performances over the whole of last season proved my worth.
“The club always got 100 per cent from me and I felt I`d earned a better offer than the one they gave me.
“Sometimes that`s how football works out but I want to make it clear that I wanted to stay, and in a way my hand was forced.”

Kilkenny made almost 150 appearances for Leeds during his time with the club after signing from Birmingham City in January 2008.

The midfielder was a regular in the starting line up for Simon Grayson and he made 37 appearances in the championship last season.
