Leeds United head coach Garry Monk is hoping to have young midfielder Ronaldo Vieira available for the crucial trip to Burton Albion on Saturday.

Vieira missed the two games over Easter after becoming ill, two games in which Leeds have picked up just one point to fall out of the play-off places but Monk is hoping to welcome him back into the squad for the crucial run-in to the season.

“He was ill beforehand at Newcastle and then got a little bit more (sick) afterwards,” Monk told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“The illness has kept him out and we are hoping he will be back ready and in contention for selection for the squad for the weekend.”

The 18-year-old has been a pivotal part of the Leeds midfield this season after making his senior debut on the final day of last season at Preston North End.

Vieira arrived at Leeds in 2015 after a successful trial at the club having come through the i2i Football Academy in York. He progressed in the Leeds academy and he was rewarded with a two-year deal in the summer of 2016. His early season form this season saw Leeds reward the youngster with a new improved three-year deal and he has now been a regular in the side.

Vieira has made 35 appearances so far this season for Leeds and he is in the running to be named the clubs Young Player of the Year as well as the goal of the season for his strike at Norwich City back in October.
