New Leeds United goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel believes he is joining a massive club after signing a two year contract at Thorp Arch today.

Leeds beat of a host of interested clubs for the highly rated 23 year old, who has just enjoyed a successful season at League Two side Notts County where he helped them win the League Two title.

Schmeichel speaking on the official website said after completing his move said, ‘I’ve grown up in England, know a lot about English football and I know Leeds is one of the biggest clubs in the country.
‘There were other opportunities, but Leeds has everything. It’s a massive club and has a massive fan base.’

The Danish under 21 international was named the League Two player of the season last season after keeping an impressive 24 clean sheets during the campaign.

County released him at the end of the season after he agreed with the club to leave, even though he still had four years left on his contract at the club.

The 23 year old had joined in the summer of 2009 for the then owners Munto Finance who were splashing the cash around.

It was rumoured he was the highest paid player at the club and they could no longer afford him after the departure of the owners and new owners were brought in.

Kasper is the son of Peter Schmeichel who often received a hot reception at Elland Road when visiting with Leeds old foes Manchester United during his career.

Despite this Peter couldn`t agree more with his son`s decision to sign for Leeds United and believes that the club is the best to be at now.
