Leeds United midfielder Jonny Howson has won his first cap for the England under 21 side.

Howson came off the bench in the second half to make his debut against Italy in Empoli.

The 22 year old continues a long line of Leeds academy players to represent England at under 21 level.

The successful academy at Elland Road has seen Mark Ford, Andy Couzens, Noel Whelan, David Batty, Paul Robinson, Jonathan Woodgate, Alan Smith, Matt Kilgallon, James Milner and most recently Fabian Delph that have played for England at under 21 level.

England lost 1-0 to an 88th minute penalty scored by Federico Macheda.
