Leeds United midfielder John Howson is the ESPN Championship player of the month for March.

The current captain of Leeds United picks up the award after helping the club to seven points from a possible twelve in their fight to win promotion from the Championship.

Howson also chipped in with two goals in the 5-2 win over Doncaster Rovers at the start of March.

The 22-year-old homegrown talent has come through the Leeds United Academy system and is now just two appearances away from making his 200th for the club since making his debut during the 2006/07 season.

He is also chipping in with a few goals this season, his opener in the crucial 4-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday was his eleventh of the season in all competitions.

Howson recently won his first cap for the England under 21 side and he has been a consistent performer over the season that has seen Leeds be in or around the play off places since early in the season.

Leeds players have now picked up the award every month so far in 2011 after Robert Snodgrass picked up the award in January and February.
