Leeds United captain Jonny Howson knows what it means to the fans to beat their arch rivals Manchester United.

The Leeds born lad, who grew up on the terraces at Elland Road, will be hoping to repeat the success that he and the team enjoyed when defeating Manchester United at Old Trafford in 2010.

Howson understands the intense rivalry between the two sets of fans and he will be hoping to repeat the success, as he knows what it means to the supporters. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Howson said, “It`s our biggest rivalry, there`s no hiding that. As a fan, if you could get it over on any team we would choose them. I was fortunate enough to play in the game last time, we were fortunate enough to beat them and to the fans it does mean an awful lot.”

It was Howson`s long ball to Jermaine Beckford that set the striker off on goal, who slid the ball past the onrushing Tomas Kuszczak in the 1-0 win at Old Trafford.

It was to prove the only goal of the game as Leeds, then in League One, enjoyed their first victory at Old Trafford in 29 years.

Whilst we all agree that the league takes preference, another win over our old foes from across the Pennines would not go amiss.

There isn`t many teams can say they are unbeaten against them in almost two years.
