Leeds United captain Johnny Howson is amongst the contenders for the ESPN Fans player of the month for March.

Howson has continued to progress this season and as led from the front has Leeds continue to press for automatic promotion in their first season back in the Championship.

The midfielder scored twice against Doncaster earlier in the month, his ninth and tenth goals of a productive season in front of goal.

The 22 year old has seen his form recognised when he won his first England under 21 cap last month against Italy.

Howson is hoping to keep Leeds stranglehold on the award in 2011 after Robert Snodgrass picked up the award in both January and February.

Also in contention for the award is Nicky Maynard (Bristol City), Danny Graham (Watford), Adel Taarabt (QPR), Jamie Ashdown (Portsmouth) and Grant Holt (Norwich City).
