Leeds United midfielder John Howson has been included in England under 21 manager Stuart Pearce`s provisional 40 man squad for this summers European Championship finals.

The 22 year old made his England debut in February as a second half substitute in the 1-0 defeat in Italy.

Howson was also called up for the friendly with Iceland in March but was forced out through injury.

The youngster came through the Leeds Academy, has enjoyed a successful season in the Leeds midfield.

Howson has captained the side for most of this season and he was named Young Player of the Year at the club on Saturday.

With just one game remaining in the Championship this season, Howson is the only Leeds player who has started all 45 games so far.

Howson will be hoping to make the final cut for the Championships that take place in Denmark in June.

England will be hoping to go one better after finishing as runners up in 2009 after losing 4-0 to Germany in the final.
