Howson signed a new three-year contract in 2008 and Leeds had the option to extend the deal by a further year, which they have exercised.
The local lad who has supported the club since a boy, said on the official website, “I`ve grown up supporting this club ,I`ve loved my time here, and extending it by another season is fantastic.
The 21 year old was the hero on Saturday when coming off the bench to score the equaliser for Leeds.
Within ten minutes of his arrival onto the pitch Leeds had turned round a 1-0 deficit to lead 2-1 and gain promotion back to the Championship.
The former Leeds academy player as already notched up almost 150 appearances since making his debut in 2006.
