Leeds United goalkeeper Shane Higgs is hoping that the season doesn`t go down to the wire and the final game of the season against Bristol Rovers.

Speaking on the official website Higgs said, ‘You never know at this stage. You don’t want it to go to the wire. If we can win our next two it could finish it off. If we’d have won on Saturday we’d have had that cushion, but it’s never that easy.’

Leeds are currently in pole position for the second automatic promotion spot but things are still real tight with only three points separating Leeds in second and Charlton in fifth, with only three games remaining.

The Whites missed a great chance to give themselves a little breathing space at the weekend when they lost to Gillingham 3-2 after a shocking start to the game which saw them trail 3-0 after only 33 minutes.

At the moment nobody seems to want to get promoted alongside Norwich City, who booked their ticket for the Championship on Saturday when they won 1-0 at Charlton.

Leeds, Swindon, Millwall and Leeds again have all filled the second automatic spot at some stage this month and with games running out quickly Leeds know that winning their last three games would guarantee promotion.

Higgs feels that the way the month as gone that two could even be enough “Definite promotion is three wins, but two wins could be enough.” He continued.

In what`s been an extraordinary season in League One, Leeds looked nailed on certainties at the turn of the year when they led the table by eight points. At the time Norwich were eleven points behind and Millwall who are now just one point behind were twenty adrift.

Despite this Higgs is still upbeat about the clubs position ‘There’s three to go and we’d have taken this at the start of the season so we’ve got to dig in.” Higgs continued.

In what`s been a topsy-turvy month, Leeds closest rivals have let their chances slip, Millwall have taken just one point from the last six, Swindon have taken just two points from nine and Charlton have taken three points from the last nine.
