b>Leeds United have today confirmed that they have released striker Mike Grella from his contract by mutual consent.

Grella, who was entering the final year of his contract, joined League One side Brentford on Friday afternoon on an emergency loan deal.

The 24 year old was placed on the transfer list in the summer by manager Simon Grayson, having made just two substitute appearances last season.

The American joined Leeds in January 2009 after a successful trial at the club.

He struggled to hold down a regular starting place during his time at Elland Road making just nine starts in fourty-two appearances, scoring five goals.

Grella spent time on loan at Carlisle United and Swindon Town last season and he made his last appearance in a Leeds shirt against Lincoln City in the Carling Cup last August.
