Leeds United boss Simon Grayson was left disappointed after seeing his side bow out of the Carling Cup with a whimper as Manchester United strolled to victory at Elland Road.

The contest was all over by half time with Michael Owen scoring twice and Ryan Giggs adding a third for the visitors.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Grayson said, “There was a lot more we could have done. We didn`t really perform as well as we can do.
“We didn`t do the things that we are good at normally. We didn`t pass the ball well enough, we didn`t create enough chances and we didn`t work them hard enough.
“There is a big gulf between us and them at this moment in time.”

Leeds could have taken the lead in the opening five minutes when Tom Lees, Darren O`Dea and Ross McCormack all had efforts blocked in a mad scramble inside the Manchester United penalty area.

Once again, Leeds defensive frailties showed through with Owen given too much space and time for both his goals and Giggs able to ghost through to score the third.
