Leeds United boss Simon Grayson believes the side have a much stronger resolve this season and are no longer an easy touch.

Leeds find themselves in fifth place in the championship after thirteen games, having lost for the first time in eight games last time out at Birmingham City, in a game where they were much the better side for long periods.

They have also made a knack of scoring late goals to claim points, especially on the road.

Leeds earned a point at West Ham and Brighton and all three points at Peterborough thanks to goals in stoppage time and Grayson believes it`s down to the players resolve and attitude to grind out results.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post , Grayson said, “We`ve got a resolve and an attitude to dig in there.”

Leeds looked set for a minimum of a play off place in their first season back in the championship last term until faltering in March and April and eventually finishing seventh.

Grayson concedes that maybe the side were not mentally strong enough last season when the pressure was on. “Maybe we were a bit of an easy touch last season. We were an easy touch in terms of the mental side and we found it difficult to handle difficult situations when it came to the crunch. This time we made a conscious effort to bring strong characters into the squad,” he continued.

Leeds biggest problem last season was their inability to keep the ball out of their own net. Despite being one of the top scorers in the championship, they also had a poor defensive record conceding 70 goals.

They are once again this season amongst the leading goalscorers in the championship but the defensive record continues to be a problem.

Leeds have kept just two clean sheets in their thirteen games so far this season but they have looked much more solid in the past month since Darren O`Dea and Tom Lees have played together in the centre of defence.

Paul Connolly is back in the side at right back after falling down the pecking order and youngster Aidy White is proving a revelation at left back with a number of good performances.

Since the quartet have played together, they have kept two clean sheets in five games.

Leeds will be hoping to keep it tight at the back when they entertain Cardiff City on Sunday, who have proved something of a bogey side in recent games.

The South Wales club completed the double over Leeds last season and are unbeaten in their last eleven games against the whites.

The game is the second of four games in a row that come against clubs who will all expect to be in or around the top six at the end of the season.

Blackpool are next up for Leeds at Elland Road on Wednesday night and they then face a trip to big spending Leicester City next Sunday, a run of games that will seriously test the resolve and attitude of the players.
