Leeds United manager Simon Grayson was pleased with the manner of the sides victory after winning for the first time in six games against fellow play off hopefuls Burnley.

Grayson speaking on the BBC Football League Weekend show said, “The manner of the performance was pleasing. With the ball, we created some really good chances and without the ball, we were hard to beat. We kept a clean sheet and deservedly won the game.”

Leeds dominated for long periods of the game with Grayson resorted to two up front with Luciano Becchio still out injured.

Ross McCormack came in for his first start January 4th to partner Billy Paynter up front and he was rewarded for a hard working performance, with the only goal of the game on 33 minutes.

It was McCormack`s first goal for the club, in what has been a stuttering start to his Leeds career, in his first season at Elland Road.

Both McCormack and Paynter were a constant thorn in the Burnley defence with the opposition keeper Brian Jensen being kept busy all afternoon.

With Leeds missing a host of chances to increase their lead the visitors almost made them pay late on but Kasper Schmeichel produced a great fingertip save to deny Ross Wallace from a free kick.

The win moved Leeds level on points with Nottingham Forest for a few hours but the midlands side beat Scunthorpe United 5-1, to almost guarantee them the final play off place.

Leeds will now travel to newly crowned Champions Queens Park Rangers for the final game of the season needing a win, whilst Nottingham Forest must lose at Crystal Palace and an eight-goal swing would also be needed for Leeds to pip Forest to the final play off place.
