Leeds United boss Simon Grayson was left frustrated after seeing his side throw away a half time lead to slip out of the Carling Cup on Tuesday night and believes his side need to cut out the mistakes.
Davide Somma scored his third goal in four days to give Leeds the lead just after the half hour mark and put Leeds firmly in the driving seat.
Luciano Becchio missed a great chance to double the lead shortly after half time and this allowed Leicester back into the game.
Shane Higgs was making his first start of the season for Leeds in goal and kept Leicester at bay as the visitors took control of the game including one point blank save to keep out Steve Howard.
Leicester finally got back on level terms after Bradley Johnson gave the ball away in defence; the ball was eventually worked to Richie Wellens who gave Higgs no chance.
Speaking on the official website, Grayson said,” It`s frustrating, that’s the word we’d use to sum up the game. As the match went along we got sloppy in our decision-making, we switched off and let Leicester back into it.”
The visitors completed the turnaround in the closing minutes when defender Neil Collins handballed in the area.
Steve Howard stepped up to give Higgs no chance and send the Foxes through to the third round.
Grayson was not happy with either goal they conceded and believes that Leeds need to start being more clinical in front of goal, much like the rest of the Championship sides, ‘The two goals were easily avoidable; it wasn’t as if we were passed off the park. Every time teams get chances in the Championship, they take them. We need to cut out the mistakes,’ He continued.
Leeds can now concentrate on the league without the distractions of cup competitions, until the FA Cup starts in the New Year.
If Leeds had gone through on Tuesday night, it would have meant six games in seventeen days during September.
