Leeds United boss Simon Grayson pulled no punches after a disappointed performance in his sides heavy 4-0 defeat at Bury on Tuesday night.

The game was the clubs first pre season game in the country after enjoying two games in Slovakia last week and Grayson admitted that the result is a setback in Leeds build up to the new Championship season.

Speaking on the official website, Grayson said, ‘It may be pre-season but it’s preparation and that’s a body blow.

‘For 25 minutes we looked quite sharp and passed it well, but after that we didn’t pass it enough, we didn’t win tackles and we didn’t show any energy.

Grayson wasn`t prepared to make excuses for a strong looking Leeds side after the defeat, continuing Grayson said, ‘You can make excuses about a hard day’s training on Monday, but that’s what pre-season is about. It was a kick-up the backside.”

Leeds trailed 1-0 at half time after enjoying the best chances in the opening half hour.

Bradley Johnson came closest to opening the scoring when his effort came back off the woodwork.

In the second half Leeds offered little resistance as Bury ran in another three goals to leave the 1700 Leeds fans that had made the journey across the Pennines bemused by the performance.

Simon Grayson as brought in six player so far in the summer but most fans still believe that at least three more signings are required at the club, another central defender, a tough tackling midfielder and a centre forward on most of their wish lists.
