Leeds United boss Simon Grayson was full of praise for youngster Tom Lees who made his first league start in the defeat to Middlesbrough at the weekend.

The 20 year old followed up his solid performance after coming off the bench for his debut in last weeks win over Bradford in the Carling Cup with another good all round performance.

Grayson speaking on Yorkshire Radio said, “He looked very assured, he was composed on the ball and he defended very well in one on one situations.
“He attacked the ball at set pieces, he did very well and very composed for somebody who was making his league debut. He`s done his chances no harm but obviously we will be looking to not get beat on Tuesday night, but I was delighted with how he played.”

Lees came through the Leeds academy and as had to be patient to get his chance in the Leeds first team.

He has spent most of the last two seasons out on loan. He spent most of the 2009/10 season on loan with Accrington Stanley and spent last season with Bury, who he helped win promotion to League One.

Lees also looked a threat from set pieces and twice came close to scoring with headers. His first produced a fine save from Middlesbrough goalkeeper Carl Ikeme. His second effort in the second half was cleared off the line by a defender after beating Ikeme.

Lees can also play in the centre of defence and he will now be hoping for a run in the team after getting ahead of usual right back Paul Connolly.
