Leeds United boss Simon Grayson is expecting a tough clash when Portsmouth travel to Elland Road on Tuesday.

Portsmouth were relegated from the Premier League last season and despite their cash problems, Grayson still believes they have a side full of Premier League quality players. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Grayson said, “They`ve got some Premier League players of the highest order, Nugent, Kitson and Lawrence have all played there many times, they`ve got a fantastic starting eleven. We know we are in for a tough test.”

The South Coast club seem to be finally sorting out their off field problems that almost saw them go into liquidation in November.

They started the season with a threadbare squad and were unable to name a full bench early on in the season, as the club were unable to bring in any new players.

Early season results reflected the size of their squad, with them winning just one of their first seven games.

The players under new boss Steve Cotterill, who had joined in the summer after guiding Notts County to promotion, started to string results together towards the end of September.

They started a run of six wins and a draw when they thumped Leicester City at home 6-1.

Despite then suffering a run of four games without a win, they have won two of their last three games, winning at both Swansea City and Norwich City who are both chasing promotion.

Portsmouth had failed to play their last two home games in a row due to the weather but returned to action at Fratton Park on Boxing Day when they drew 1-1 with Millwall.

They are currently in fourteenth place, just five points outside the play off places and with games in hand on most teams above them.
