LUFC Grayson- Beckford was injured

Simon Grayson was quick to dispel any theories made by fans and the media about Jermaine Beckford`s absence from Monday night`s Carling Cup win at Darlington.

Beckford missed out after suffering a knee injury in the win over Exeter City at the weekend but people were quickly putting two and two together and making five, feeling that the star striker was about to move away from Leeds and a new club didn`t want him cup tied.

Speaking on Radio Leeds, Grayson said, ‘Contrary to speculation he wasn’t getting cup-tied or anything like that – he is injured.
‘He isn’t going anywhere – he’ll be here at the end of the season.’

Beckford`s strike partner Luciano Becchio was also carrying a slight knock from the weekend so only earned a place on the bench.

The strike partnership who scored over fifty goals between them last season were replaced by Enoch Showunmi and Mike Grella in attack.

Grella had an excellent game winning the man of the match award whilst Showunmi scored the only goal of the game when he got a toe to Robert Snodgrass`s cross.
