Leeds United boss Simon Grayson was delighted with the contribution of Luciano Becchio and Mikael Forssell after the pair came off the bench to help Leeds to a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace, saying he got the response he was hoping for with the introduction of the pair.

It was the first appearance for Becchio since suffering a hamstring injury in April, whilst it was Forssell`s debut for the club after signing in the week, until the end of the season.

Both came on with Leeds 2-1 behind with just over thirty minutes remaining and Grayson felt he got the response that he thought the introduction of both players would create.

Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Grayson said, “There was no way he (Becchio) was going to start the game today, there was no way he was going to play for much longer than 25 minutes.
“It was the right time to bring him on; I thought he could affect the game. “Mikael Forssell came on as well and he did get the crowd going. That was the full intention of trying to do it, trying to get some positivity into the team. “Knowing that he is capable of getting on the end of things, with McCormack and Snodgrass putting balls into the box.
“We had two players in there who we thought could win the challenges and win the headers.”

Becchio finished last season as leading goalscorer with 20 goals despite missing the final month of last season through injury.

It took the Argentinian just thirteen minutes to get his season off and running when he rose to head home following a free kick into the middle from Ross McCormack.

Forssell also played his part in the Leeds comeback and it was his knock down that set up McCormack for the winner with just six minutes remaining.
