LUFC Grayson again critical of defence

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson was once again critical of his defence after scraping past Bradford City in the Carling Cup.

Grayson criticised his defence after the 3-1 defeat at Southampton on Saturday and he was once again unhappy with their performance.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Grayson said, “We`ve got to do better without the ball, we were too easy, we were a soft touch at times. People were in the wrong positions, we were punished, and no matter what level you play at if you make defensive errors, and experienced people were making wrong decisions. It cost us over the weekend and it`s cost us again tonight. It`s obviously something we need to get right if we are going to be better in the championship this year.”

Leeds twice went behind; the first goal coming after Mark Stewart was allowed to go unchallenged to the bye line before pulling the ball back for Jack Compton, whose movement left Ben Parker on his heels.

Bradford went ahead for a second time in the second half when Michael Flynn was allowed to get his shot away unchallenged.

Leeds looked more assured at the back when Leigh Bromby and Tom Lees replaced Paul Connolly and Andy O`Brien, who clearly looks unfit.

Fellow defender Alex Bruce was also on the bench and Darren O`Dea returns from international duty. It will be interesting to see if Grayson makes any changes for the weekend`s game against Middlesbrough at Elland Road.
