Mikael Forssell realises he may have to be patient before getting his chance at Elland Road after the experienced Finland international signed for Leeds last week until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old striker, who has spent most of his career in England, came off the bench alongside returning striker Luciano Becchio to make his debut for the club.

Forssell helped Leeds turn round a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace and he helped set up inform striker Ross McCormack for the winner.

The Finland international realises with so many strikers at the club he may have to bide his time at Elland Road but knows he will get his chance in the hectic and highly competitive championship.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Forssell said, “There are lot of us here, with a lot of quality too.
“We`re fighting for a couple of places and it`s difficult to be certain about anything.
“I look at the other strikers and think they`re all good enough to start week in, week out.
“But in my view it`s better to have too many strikers than not enough – better to score plenty of goals than find yourself short.
“If I have to be patient then that`s the way it is.
“I wouldn`t expect anything else. But there are so many games this season and we`ll all be needed.”

Ross McCormack is in fine form this season, his two goals against Palace last weekend took his championship tally to five for the season, and he is currently leading the way alongside Southampton striker Ricky Lambert as the championships leading goalscorer.

Luciano Becchio returned after a long-term injury last weekend and marked his return with the equalising goal.

The Argentinian notched twenty goals last season in the championship, before a hamstring injury in the game with Watford cut short his season.

Also in attack is Andy Keogh who is on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers until January and although he is yet to score in a Leeds shirt as proved a valuable acquisition.

Forssell signed for Leeds until the end of the season and he is hoping that if all goes well then a longer stay at Elland Road could be a possibility.

“I hope this move goes well for me and if it does then there`s no reason why it can`t be a long-term thing.
“But it`s too early for me to be talking like that. I`ve only just signed my contract.
“The first target for me is to start games, play well and score goals,” continued Forssell.

Compatriot Mika Vayrynen has joined Forssell at Elland Road this week who as also signed a deal keeping him at Leeds until the end of the season.

Vayrynen is also an experienced international having made over 50 appearances for Finland and will bolster the Leeds midfield.
