New signing Mikael Forssell is looking forward to battling for a place at Leeds United after signing until the end of the season.

The 30 year old has been on trial at Elland Road in recent weeks and is now looking forward to playing for Leeds and returning to English football.

Forssell faces competition for a place at Elland Road with Ross McCormack, Andy Keogh, Billy Paynter and the returning Luciano Becchio also battling it out for the two forward positions.

Forssell said, “I`m delighted. I`d had three good years in Germany with Hannover but I`ve missed English football and really wanted to come back here.
“To come to a club like Leeds is fantastic. It`s such an historic club, the team is good, the lads are positive, the facilities are unbelievable and the fans look brilliant.
“There`s big competition for striking places here but I`m hungry for goals.”

The Finnish international has spent most of his footballing career in the English game having first signed for Chelsea as a 17 year old.

Forssell spent time on loan at Crystal Palace where he made over 50 appearances and three years at Birmingham City where he made over 100 appearances.

The striker joins Leeds after three years in the German Bundesliga with Hannover96.
