Former Leeds United goalkeeper Mervyn Day has rejoined the club as chief scout.

Day made over 200 appearances for the Whites between 1985 and 1983 and was the number one keeper in Leeds successful Division Two title winning side of 1990.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson is delighted to see a former Leeds colleague rejoin him at Elland Road, speaking on the official website, Grayson said, ‘Merv’s knowledge and experience will prove important to the football club as we look to progress and develop what we are doing.

‘Like with myself and Glynn Snodin, his time here as a player means that he knows and understands the club and knows what it takes to keep driving the club forward.’

The 55 year led Carlisle United to Promotion from the fourth tier of English football in his first management post in 1997, before joining up with Alan Curbishley at Charlton Athletic.

Day was the number two to Curbishley at both Charlton and then West Ham United.

He`s also worked with current Leeds coach Glynn Snodin at Carlisle, Charlton and West Ham.

Day will work with Gwyn Williams at Elland Road as Simon Grayson restructures his scouting department.
