A number of championship clubs are reported to be chasing former Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford.

The Everton striker signed a four-year deal at Goodison Park last summer after running down his contract at Elland Road, joining Everton on a free transfer.

Nottingham Forest, Southampton, West Ham United and Leicester City are all reported to be chasing his signature with Leicester already reported to have had a £3 million bid turned down.

Leicester are rumoured to be ready to come back with an improved bid and with Everton desperate to free up some funds for new players, they may be willing to listen

Beckford finished his first full season at Goodison Park has the joint top scorer with 10 goals from 38 games and he scored one of the Premier League goals of the season, when he netted against Chelsea after going almost the full length of the pitch.

The 27 year old is reported as stating that he is happy at Everton and doesn`t want to drop down to the championship.

Beckford enjoyed three very successful seasons at Elland Road, netting 85 times. He eventually helped Leeds to promotion with the important winner against Bristol Rovers on the final day of the 2009/10 season.

Leeds fans will also never forget that goal on January 3rd 2010.
