LUFC Fans view v Yeovil Town

After the dismal performance against Swindon on Saturday I was quickly, back on the bus and making the trek to Yeovil for a Bank Holiday lunchtime kick off.

Here are my player ratings in our much overdue victory to get our promotion push back on track.

Shane Higgs 5
Wasn`t his usual assured self between the sticks and flapped at two or three crosses, without being punished for any of them. In his defence it was a very blustery afternoon and hard to judge the flight of the ball.

Leigh Bromby 5
Didn`t fill me full of confidence in defence and was regularly caught on the wrong side, also his distribution is way to slow and he usually end sup going sideways or backwards.

Neil Collins 8 Star Man
His best game since having the unenviable task of replacing Patrick Kisnorbo at the heart of the defence.
Was having to cover the wayward Naylor who continuously failed to pick up his man.

Richard Naylor 6
May have scored the two goals for us and could have got a few more but he is paid to defend and he is not at the races at the moment. Continously found ball watching and not picking up his man and was at fault for the goal, when he allowed Bowditch to waltz into the area and shoot unchallenged.
Might be worth playing him up front!

Andy Hughes 5
Didn`t join in the attack at all this game like he did at the weekend against Swindon. Once again changed positions and filled in at left back.

Jon Howson 6
Another steady game by Howson who as improved in the past three games. Was heavily involved during the first hour and floated in the ball for Naylor to score the first goal.
Drifted out of the game after Yeovil`s goal.

Mike Doyle 5
I am a big fan of Doyle who often thinks his donkeywork goes unnoticed. Today he was off the pace and was at fault for giving the ball away in midfield that led to Yeovil`s goal.
Was struggling to cope with Kalala in midfield as Yeovil searched for an equaliser.

Neil Kilkenny 6
Kilkenny had another decent game and took over the responsibility of taking the corners from Snodgrass. Leeds looked dangerous at set pieces for the first time this season as he regularly found a white shirt.

Jermaine Beckford 6
I expected a much improved performance than of late from Beckford with the TV cameras present.
Worked hard for a change, hassling the Yeovil defence and winning headers.
Missed a couple of great chances to increase Leeds lead soon after going 1-0 up.

Max Gradel 8
At last, we have the old Max Gradel back. Worked hard all afternoon and was a constant thorn in the Yeovil defenders side.
For a lad who is so small he would struggle to get on the big rides at Alton Towers, he wins a lot of headers.
Tired towards the end but still threw himself into every challenge to help out the Leeds defence.

Robert Snodgrass 7
Looked like he had a frustrating afternoon, with things not coming off for him. Showed a couple of moments of magic and was thwarted by the Yeovil keeper on a couple of occasions.

Substitutes

Bradley Johnson 5 (Replaced Kilkenny 87)
Gave Leeds fans a few nervous moments in the final few minutes when he dwelt on the ball in defensive positions.

Sanchez Watt 7 (Replaced Beckford 87)
Only on for a very short space of time but showed the passion we need from every Leeds player in the run in. Put in a couple of fantastic challenges to stop Yeovil attacks in the dying minutes.

Summary
A game that took a while to settle down and was played in very blustery conditions.
Leeds took control of the game after half hour and should really have had the game dead and buried after an hour with a number of good chances missed.
They looked nice and comfortable once they had the two goal lead and the confidence was returning, but as soon as Yeovil got a goal back the nervousness set in.

Was a great opportunity missed to win and win well and get the goal difference back on a level par with the teams they are chasing.

Having said all that though, it was nice to see Leeds get back to firstly scoring and then winning ways.

With all the other sides winning at the top its done nothing to change the table and with games running out we really need to build on this result.

Southend will not be easy on Saturday as they are fighting for their lives at the bottom and what might actually help Leeds is they cannot really come looking for a draw as they are also desperate for three points.
