LUFC Fans view v Swansea

Unfortunately it was my turn (Dazza71) to make the trek to Swansea and give my fans view of the players performance in the 3-0 defeat.

Schmeichel 5

Couldn`t do much more than spread himself for the two goals in open play as the attacking players were in on goal.
He made a couple of decent stops to keep the score down.

Lichaj 5
With Leeds mostly on the back foot for long periods of the game, he wasn`t allowed to help out in attack. Was given a torrid time by Sinclair and was once again let down by a lack of support from Snodgrass.

Bruce 4
Broke a finger in the first half, it was about the only thing a lot of the Leeds players broke as a lot of them didn`t break a sweat!

O`Brien 4
Two goals have come with the Swansea players allowed to walk the ball through the Leeds defence, with them static.
I was hoping he was going to be the leader when he signed but he`s slipped into the usual mould of Leeds defenders over the past few seasons.

McCartney 3
He was poor in the midweek game with Barnsley and he was worse today. Given a torrid time by Dyer and was tightly taken off by Grayson before he was sent off. He only looks half-decent when he`s attacking and I`ve not been impressed with him defensively since he arrived at the club.

Snodgrass 4
Struggled in the last two games and suddenly looks very tired.

Howson 5
He tried but even he had a poor game, simple passes went astray as the Leeds midfield were bullied by Swansea.

Kilkenny 3
When I mention the Leeds midfield was bullied, then that means Kilkenny disappeared. I have tried to stick up for Kilkenny, but once again he isn`t willing to get stuck in. If he had the same style of tackling as he did whinging he would be brilliant!
Only managed to get any kind of foot on the ball in the final ten minutes when Swansea were coasting.

Gradel 6 Star Man
Only one who tried from start to finish and even he had a relatively quiet game.

Becchio 4
Didn`t get much service and didn`t stand much chance against two big Swansea defenders.

Somma 5
Looked the most likely to score and did have a couple of great chances that he should of done better with. He is never going to be the workhorse that Becchio is but he will always find space. For the first time this season, he wasted the chances that were presented to him.

Subs

Watt 5

Brought something to the side when he came on and tried to get stuck in. A chance late on that he just put wide of the post.

Parker 5
Came on with the game all over and was given a much easier time on the left than McCartney.

Paynter 5
He had a shot that was easy enough for the Swansea keeper. Apart from that rarely got involved, much like most of his teammates.

Grayson 4
He got it wrong for me today. We have been playing a 4-5-1 for most of the season and when we needed strength in the middle, to combat a very good Swansea midfield, we went to a 4-4-2.
Could have made the substitutions much earlier in the second half as it was plain to see most of the players on the pitch weren`t doing it.

Summary
A very poor Leeds display against a very good Swansea side.
We have looked tired the last few games and the work rate just isn`t there.
Swansea showed us today how to close down players quickly and move the ball around quickly as well.
We sit back off players and allow them far too much time on the ball.
We still need bite in midfield (you know the bite we have been missing all season).
I think this performance as been coming for a while and we have been riding our luck.

At the same time, lets put it into some sort of perspective; we have been managing for most of the season to grind out results even when we have been under par.
We are still in the play off positions, although I think we can forget about automatic promotion.
Hopefully we will see someone coming in on loan this week. We need some fresh faces quickly or we will fall away from the play off places.
It`s been a great season so far, one that`s exceeded a lot of peoples expectations.
We are still in a great position and a few players coming in now (are you listening Bates and Grayson), could see us cement our place in the top six.
We will never get a better chance to get out of this division; it`s up to you to ensure these players come in that we keep being promised.
One final mention must go to the fans. 3,000 made the trip to South West Wales, with the vast majority leaving before dawn and despite a poor performance still stuck with the side until the end with none stop singing for the final twenty minutes.
If only the players passion for the club matched that of the fans.
