LUFC Fans view v Stockport

After the pressures of the first month of the season, our regular ‘fans view` provider Tiny T is taking a well earned break, I have stepped in to give my player ratings for the game against Stockport.

Shane Higgs 8

Continues to impress in the Leeds goal, had a relatively quiet first half but was always alert when called upon in the second half making a few good saves. Controls his area, and took everything that came into the area at height with ease. He is definitely the best keeper we have been looking for in recent seasons.

Jason Crowe 6

Steady game, had little to do. Does seem to let attackers get the wrong side of him on occasions. Filled in well in the centre of defence when Bromby went off.

Leigh Bromby 7

Made a decent debut with a few good interceptions at the back, his long throw is going to be a good weapon during the season. Having not played much this season he tired in the second half and was replaced just past the hour.

Lubomir Michalik 7

I`m probably one of his biggest critics, I have never rated him and he scares the life out of me in defence. I will give him his due he had a good game. He played two or three excellent cross field passes and scored the second goal.
He didn`t have a great deal to do at the back, he did make a few good clearances, against different opposition and better strikers I do still fear for us with him at the back. Luckily I think he will only be fourth choice when Naylor and the international duo are back.

Andy Hughes 6

Did ok in defence, I like Hughes because he fills in a number of positions without fuss. I must agree with our usual ‘fans view` contributor who is always going on about his distribution. It was at times confusing, seems to like passing into spaces where there is nobody within 30 yards.

Mike Doyle 6

In a hard midfield battle he was working hard, was rather harshly booked for a good strong tackle and Grayson took him off before half time to probably save him from a red card.

Jon Howson 8 Star Man

The game was very compressed in midfield with Stockport packing the midfield out, Howson looked the class act in the middle with some tough tackling and possession, he looked like the one player who looked like he had time and space to pick his pass. He`s revelling in the captains role and gets better all the time.

Bradley Johnson 7
No goal this week but still worked very hard for the side, wins a great deal of headers for the side and is picked out by Higgs to win the flick on`s for the attackers. Set up a great chance for Grella early in the second half.

Robert Snodgrass 6

I don`t think he`s firing on all cylinders like he was in the second half of last season yet. Good work rate and helped in defence but not quite hurting the opposition in the final third.

Mike Grella 7

Enjoyed a rare start and scored his first goal in the league for the club with a well guided shot. He should have had two more when missing the target when in great positions. Another who is not used to ninety minutes and tired in the second half.

Lucciano Becchio 6

He always works hard but didn`t look dangerous in attack yesterday, I think he missed his usual strike partner. I think the same could be said of Grella, they both seem to play better alongside Beckford.

Substitutes

Neil Kilkenny (replaced Doyle 41) 7

Came in and generally sat in front of the back four, collecting the ball and starting the Leeds attack. Had a couple of good efforts on goal and is very unfortunate to be missing out with the rest of the midfield in fine form.

Andy Robinson (replaced Bromby 64) 6

Made a nuisance of himself on the left side with fellow sub Showunmi, had a couple of good chances to shoot but decided to pass.

Enoch Showunmi (replaced Grella 72) 7

Enjoyed his cameo performance for the last 20 minutes and entertained the crowd with some good work on the left (wasn`t he supposed to be up front?) put in a couple of good crosses, the less said about his one shot on goal the better!!

Altogether a decent team performance against a hard working County side, would have been nice to see us score a few more but it`s all about the three points at this stage and creating a cushion at the top of the table.

Do you agree with my ratings? Would love to hear your views and ratings from those that were in attendance.
