LUFC Fans view v Southend United

Tiny T gives us his usual no holds barred view of the players and their performance at Elland Road.

This time against struggling Southend United in a game that took Leeds an hour to go in front before clinching an important three points in a 2-0 win.

Higgs 5
Distribution poor as was his decision making, could have helped the defence more by coming out to collect the ball.

Bromby 5
Overlapped at times but crosses poor, one or two problem moments, but troubled very little.

Naylor 6
Exposed at times and won a lot in the air, but his distribution is one dimensional, long ball is all he looks for and at times the ball boys saw more of it than the front two.

Collins 7
Assured in the centre of defence, won the ball well and covered behind Hughes and Naylor when needed.

Hughes 4
Yet again his distribution is all over the place, tries to get forward but again poor link play. Why we need him when we had two others who can play left back available is beyond me.

Howson 7
A good stint and worked tirelessly to keep us moving forward.

Doyle 7
A good hard man display and put himself about in the middle, better than of late.

Kilkenny 6
Proved again he cannot tackle and his corners did not pass the first man, tries to go through the middle when we had men wide on the odd occasion.

Gradel 8 Star man
Workaholic performance and got the deserved goal.

Beckford 4
Totally off form and rightly subbed.

Subs

Johnson 6

Got forward well but booked and will miss next two games. A left footer playing on the left sid,e did I see something novel today.

Becchio 7
Proved how much we miss him, wins and holds the ball instead of giving it away. Got the second goal, not bad for thirty minutes work.

Watt
Not on long enough to give a score

Summary

When will we learn the team needs width and pace out wide. Its too late for this season but after three seasons in Division 3 its time our managers learnt we haven’t any!

Praise from me for a Referee is like Rocking Horse Doo Doo but today`s let the game flow as much as possible and was largely anonymous.

Nervous start but when we got our noses in front we were always going to win and with Gradel and Becchio scoring, there confidence will be high.

I am not one to have a go at our fans, but the minority who booed Beckford when he was subbed are out of order. If it wasn’t for his goals we possibly wouldn’t be in the position we are, he is off form and needs our support not our condemnation so get behind him, we still need his goals.

Five Games left and fifteen points to play for, let us see where they take us.
