LUFC Fans view v Reading

Tiny T gives us his usual fans view, this time after the much-improved performance against Reading.

Schmeichel 6

Competent, not much to do really, punched one he should have caught though. Well protected by a solid display.

Connolly 7 Star man
Got forward and solid in defence.

O’Brien 7
Better than recent performances, though his distribution is ‘hoof it`.

Naylor 6
Reasonable enough performance though he is slow and distribution was woeful.

Lichaj 7
Yet another accomplished performance, can we persuade him to join and Villa to sell.

Snodgrass 5
Looks tired, and delivery was poor, two good chances to score and wasted them.

Johnson 6
Stuck to his task well, protected the back line and nearly got the goal, bloody bar what a place to put it.

Livermore 6
Robust in the challenge and subbed at half time to save the yellow card.

Gradel 5
Subdued performance, got through and the Keeper stopped it just. He needs a spark to get him going again.

Howson 7
Did a good amount of closing players down, unless he was injured, why was he taken off, mystery for those around me.

Paynter 5
Not quiet at the races, though the ball into him was poor.

Substitutes
Kilkenny 5

Gave the ball away on more than one occasion in a dangerous position, always looks like he’s running in mud.

Watt
Not on long enough

Somma
Not on long enough.

Summary
A clean sheet was welcome with some stout defending at times, felt that the midfield played a little too deep and leaving Paynter isolated.

Quality of ball into the box was lacking when we did get forward, and most the time we seemed happy to let one man have a go, but Reading came for a point and got it.

Thought Grayson`s subs were a little weird, would have gone for Bannan to give a bit more pace in the middle but he did the usual and sent on the assassin Kilkenny.
Very predictable when something different might have worked a little better. Couldn’t understand the Howson substitution at all as he was doing most of the closing down up front. Also taking off Paynter, he should have stayed on with either Somma or Watt to work off him but I’m not the manager.

Both wide men looked tired and lacking a spark, Star man could have been anyone with a 7 really, but went for Connolly.
A word on the Referee, the best we’ve had for a while.

Ian Harte the former player may never have been quick but can pass the ball and his delivery into the box was great, wish we had someone who could do that.

On to Palace and a scrappy 1-0 will do, we need 3 points. If the team plays like this were in with a chance of the playoffs.

Thanks as always Tiny for your views.
