LUFC Fans view v Portsmouth

I am in the hot seat, (Dazza71), for the fans view for the trip to the South coast to face Portsmouth on Saturday.

Schmeichel 6

Probably feel he could have done better with the first goal, although it came through a crowd of players. Made a fantastic stop to deny Utaka minutes later and he couldn`t much about the same player putting Portsmouth back into the lead. He is still not commanding his area enough for me like he did when he first arrived at the club.

Connolly 4
A poor performance from the right back, he went missing for the first goal with Bromby having to come across to try to stop Lawrence. Got in a mix up with Bruce for the second goal and picked up another silly booking, his ninth of the season and just one away from a two-match ban.

Bruce 6
Never looks the same player when O`Brien isn`t playing, got into a mix up with Connolly for the second goal and also poor communication with Schmeichel that led to an heated argument in the first half.

Bromby 5
A mediocre game in defence and never looked comfortable, his distribution from the back was poor.

McCartney 7
A solid display from the left back who had to try and keep Lawrence quiet. Got forward to help out in attack more in the second half as Leeds pressed.

Howson 7
A decent game from Howson, he tried to get Leeds going through out the game. He almost won it for Leeds near the end when Ashdown made a great save.

Johnson 6
Very hot and cold, when he did things well he did them very well but often switched off and gave the ball away cheaply. He has been a different player though since his switch to the centre of midfield.
Back to normal with his shooting when his free kick hit the back of the away end, I suppose it was too good to last after last week!

Watt 4 (Replaced Somma 61)
Rarely got into the game in the first half and looked like he picked up a hamstring injury early in the second half before eventually being replaced.

Snodgrass 7
Like the rest of the Leeds side, he struggled to get into the game in the first half but he gave Carl Dickinson a torrid time second half and regularly beat him down the right.

Becchio 6
He didn`t get a sniff in the first half as Leeds struggled to get it over the halfway line. A well worked free kick for the equaliser and he caused them problems at the back in the second half with his physical presence.

Gradel 8 Star Man
Worked his socks off all afternoon and he was often found helping out in defence in the first half with some solid tackling. One of only a few players who can say they had a decent first half. Had a good battle with Greg Halford in the second half and it looked like it could boil over at any time.

Substitutes

Somma (61 minutes for Watt) 7

He made an instant impact with a lovely touch and shot that gave Ashdown no chance. Battled well up front and made some good tackles to keep Portsmouth penned into their own half.

Summary

A game of two halves, any chance next time we play away, we can turn up for both.

We was lucky to still be in the game at half time as Portsmouth created quite a few chances and we was very lucky to get away without conceding a penalty when McCartney handled.

Second half we looked a totally different side as across the midfield we took control of the game.

I honestly feel that without the floodlight failures we would have won the game as both times they went off we was in control and creating chances.

Two great goals, the first of the training pitch as Becchio was given a simple task to tap in. The second goal was all about Somma, a great first touch and instant shot that caught Ashdown off guard.

We need to stop drawing games, would be better off winning one and losing one.

Still tight at the top but teams below us are catching up, especially Nottingham Forest and Leicester.

A good ten-day break now for Leeds to recharge the batteries and get a few players with niggles rested.
It will be another hard game next time out, against a rejuvenated Hull City who are bound to have a full house behind them as Leeds are in town.
