LUFC Fans view v Peterborough

The usual Vital Leeds fans view, this time done by myself as Leeds made the trip to Peterborough United.

Everyone was expecting a goal fest and we were not disappointed.

Rachubka 4
Made one very good save in the second half but looks a very nervous goalkeeper. He was dithering on the line for their second goal. His distribution is shocking. One thing I hate to hear is Leeds fans mocking our goalkeeper. He took an easy catch in the second half and it was met by ironic cheers from the Leeds fans.
Is this really going to help his confidence? We have destroyed our own goalkeeper`s confidence over the years with these antics. Like it or not, we are without Lonergan for about six weeks and we have to get behind him and not mock him.

Connelly 6
He always gives us an extra option going forward but he did not seem fully with it today. Was it because we kicked off early?

Lees 6
He was out muscled at the back post for their first equaliser. Distribution in the first half found touch more often that not.

O`Dea 7
Becoming the leader in the Leeds defence and a very good finish for the winner, made even sweeter by the fact I had backed him at 33/1 for the last goal. Him and Howson collided for their second goal.

White 8 Star Man
He gets better with every game. He looks solid in defence and his pace on the break is causing the opposition lots of problems. I keep willing him to have a go when in a good position.

Vayrynen 6
Struggled to get into the game when playing out wide but looked much better when he moved into the middle. Grayson`s lovechild should have been subbed early in the second half and not Vayrynen.

Howson 4
In the first half he might as well have stood next to me. Hopeless, gave the ball away and did very little. In the second half he was slightly better but when we came under pressure, once again he disappeared. He was saying last week, he wants to see Leeds players put the effort in. Well it is time to lead by example, captain!

Clayton 7
He is certainly not performing as he was at the start of the season but still the pick in the middle of the park. It was a very well taken goal to put us ahead for a second time. My one criticism is, sometimes he needs to get rid of the ball rather than play himself out of trouble. He was very lucky a couple of times not to be punished when dithering on the ball.

Pugh 6
A very quiet first half but he does help White a lot defensively.

Keogh 6
A great strike to put us ahead but he was guilty of missing a great chance when one on one with the keeper. As always he worked hard up front but he was another who was guilty of giving the ball away cheaply with some sloppy passes.

McCormack 6
Another tireless display from McCormack and he also missed a great chance just before half time, but give credit to their keeper, it was a good save.

Substitutes

Sam 7

With no Snodgrass, we really lacked creativity out wide. I was glad to see Grayson make an early substitution in the second half. Sam was very busy and usually involved in what Leeds created in the second half.

Becchio 6
A little bit better from Becchio and he was brave to put his head in to make sure the ball crossed the line at the end.

Nunez 5
Too many step overs and trying to beat every player. It was him giving the ball away in their half that led to their second equaliser. Sometimes the easy ball is the better option.

Summary
Some may think my marks are low for a side that came away with the three points. However, similar to Coventry on Tuesday, we did not kill off a side when they were there for the taking. Trust me if it had finished 2-2 there would have been many unhappy Leeds forums this evening.

We need to stop sitting back when we take the lead and inviting pressure. Some of our build up in the second half was far to slow and it was as if we wanted to score the perfect goal.

Defensively we do look much better but their second goal was like the Leeds defending of a month ago. O`Dea and Howson collided and then two defenders and Rachubka all looked at each other whilst a Peterborough ‘defender` nipped in to score.

I suppose this makes up for Tuesday but we could have quite easily have been talking about dropping another two points this evening. In this division the difference between a draw and a win is massive.

Apart from my comments about the fans with Rachubka, the fans were brilliant again today and once again very funny with chants about Darren Ferguson and Simon Grayson.
Birmingham should be fun on Wednesday, ‘she said no Marlon, she said no.`
