LUFC Fans view v Crystal Palace

Tiny T gives us his usual fans view, this time from the narrow 3-2 home win over Crystal Palace.

Lonergan 8 Star man

Some great saves, kept us in the game at times. His distribution is weak and from the Kop, I thought he could have done better with the second goal.

Lees 6
Struggled at times but little support from Snodgrass. I would like to see him at centre half.

Kisnorbo 4
Troubled by pace all afternoon as the Palace side just ran at him and round him.

O’Dea 6
The best of the defence, not a player I can warm to though as he’s an old fashioned Row Z player. He helped behind Taylor at times.

Taylor 6

A useful first start for the 17 year old. A stunning ball for the opening goal. Like Lees though, no protection in front as Nunez went missing.

Snodgrass 3
Seemed totally out of sorts for the first hour, improved a little towards the end. Needs to learn that you cannot go through players and when you beat them, a decent cross is required, as he over hit most of them. He also should track back.

Brown 6
Fought vainly to stem the tide. Lacked pace but played whilst coming back from injury due a lack of numbers.

Howson 6
Like Brown he was overrun, and playing whilst ill, physically sick on the pitch.

Nunez 3
Poor showing and he did not like being subbed. Was it or was it not a goal from the free kick, I do not know. Out muscled in a physical game.

Keogh 3
Most of the ball he received was in the air and this is not his forte, couldn’t make it stick.

McCormack 4
Scored two but wanted too make too many ‘Hollywood passes,` when out wide after Nunez went off. He wasn’t there when needed.

Substitutes

Becchio 7

Showed what we’ve been missing, his aerial presence and doesn’t get bullied. Headed goal was good as he made space, Thank goodness he is back.

Forssell 6
With Becchio, he changed the game, good knock down for the winner.

Sam 5
Didn’t seem to get going after coming on.

Summary
A game we should have lost. The wide men did nothing, with both guilty of poor and infective defending. Quality of ball to the front two was lacking and after a good start we threw it away.

Taylor had a useful first game at the back and my hat off to Grayson for giving the young lad a chance, he didn’t let us down unlike some of the more experienced players.

The middle of the park was congested as both wide men kept coming inside. When Howson and Brown went to go wide, nobody was there so we resorted to long ball and it just kept coming back.

Becchio and Forssell when the double Substitution was made, combined to cause problems and we started to get on the front foot, one scored and the other provided the winner.

If we have to play Brown too early into his comeback from injury and Howson is ill on the day and probably should not have played, we are short on numbers in midfield.

At the back, we have been saying since the first game in League 1, our defence is the Achilles heel. We are now in the fifth season and cannot rely on scoring three goals a game. Time to get this troublesome area sorted

The fans
This was the first time since Marching on together has been played after half time that the fans were mainly silent when it was played that tells you how bad the first half was.

On a positive note, we got three points, moved up the table and its Bristol City next week, Kilkenny and all. Plus Becchio is back and scoring

Thanks Tiny for your views
