Enoch Showunmi was a very happy man to score his first Leeds goal after his career threatening illness.

Showunmi missed the vast majority of last season after doctors discovered a blood clot on his lung shortly before Christmas.

The former Bristol City striker joined Leeds in the summer of 2008 and struggled to win a regular starting place in the first half of last season. The striker however had a great strike rate scoring five goals in six starts.

The 27 year old got on the score sheet for the first time in Leeds weekend win at Glentoran, speaking on LUTV Enoch said “It felt great just to play and get a goal”.

Enoch returned to pre season training with the rest of the squad and played in the first game at York City. He played out wide on the left that day and set up Leeds second goal.

Talking about the possibility of playing on the left on a regular basis he said “There are four strikers at the club so there is good competition. I have played left midfield a few times during my career and maybe the gaffer is looking at that”.

I am sure though after such a worrying end to 2008 and start to 2009 Enoch is just delighted to be pulling on the white shirt again and returning to fitness.
