Leeds United on loan midfielder Mike Doyle is hoping for a return to the Republic of Ireland squad after a fine performance in front of the nation on Sunday.

Doyle is on a season long loan from Coventry City and was the linchpin of the Leeds midfield in their famous FA Cup win at Manchester United on Sunday.
So far he has made just the one start for the Irish first team back in 2006 and feels he`s become a bit of a ‘forgotten man` despite being a consistent performer over the past six years with his parent club and now Leeds.

Speaking on Newstalk’s Off the Ball Doyle said ‘I’m a bit of a forgotten man in League One but a cup run might get a bit of attention back towards me. I feel I should have more caps than I do. Hopefully, I can show people I can do a job for the Irish team if they need me.’

Ireland, who were controversially knocked out of the World Cup in the play offs by France will be starting their Euro 2012 qualifiers later this year.

Doyle will be hoping to make Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni take notice by keeping himself and Leeds in the spotlight.

Leeds will once again be under the spotlight of the nation when travel to Tottenham in round four of the FA Cup later this month. The club are also in the Northern Area final of the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy and eight points clear at the top of League One.
