The agent of Leeds United striker David Somma says the player is hoping to be back in contention for a place in the side in six to eight weeks.
Paul Nicholls who represents Somma, says the striker, who suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in pre-season is ahead of schedule and could be back before the end of March.
Nicholls speaking on the South African website Kickoff.com said, “We’re hoping in six to eight weeks he will be in contention to play but it’s important that he takes things slowly,’
‘The progress has been really good – he’s ahead of schedule and the physio is really happy but obviously there is still a long way to until he gets back to full fitness and match fitness. Hopefully he’ll get a chance to play some matches before the end of the season.’
Somma underwent surgery on the injury and returned to light training at the start of December.
The South African had a successful first season in the Leeds side, netting 12 times in 32 times, including two on his championship debut as a substitute, in the 3-1 win over Millwall.
His form for Leeds also earned him international recognition and he scored once in three appearances for South Africa last season.
