Leeds United winger Stuart Dallas shook off the foot injury that forced him off in the World Cup play-off clash against Switzerland on Friday and he started the second leg today.

Dallas was on the receiving end of some tough tackles at Windsor Park on Friday night and one crunching tackle in the opening five minutes saw him requiring treatment.

The winger was eventually forced off early in the second half and many thought his chances of making the second leg in Basel were over after he left the ground on crutches but he was named in the starting line-up.

Unfortunately, Dallas and his Northern Ireland teammates will not be competing in the World Cup finals next summer after they could only draw 0-0 in Switzerland, losing 1-0 on aggregate after being beaten by a controversial penalty in the home leg.

Northern Ireland took the game to Switzerland as they looked to turn the tie around and Dallas had two chances in the opening five minutes but they could not find a goal in treacherous conditions after heavy rain in Basel.

Dallas will now return to Leeds and prepare for the clash with Middlesbrough next Sunday.

Pontus Jansson (Sweden) and Eunan O`Kane (Republic of Ireland) still have their second legs to play this week as Leeds hope to be represented at the World Cup finals in Russia next summer.

Sweden take a 1-0 lead into their second leg in Italy on Monday whilst the Republic of Ireland take on Denmark in Dublin on Tuesday with the tie goalless following the first leg in Denmark on Saturday.
