Leeds United winger Stuart Dallas says the club must keep head coach Garry Monk if they are to build on this season.

Monk is still unclear where his future lies at Leeds despite leading them to a seventh place finish in his first season at Elland Road and he is to hold talks with current co-owner Andrea Radrizzani. Leeds came so close to a play-off place until a late blip in the season saw them finish just outside the play-off places despite amassing 75 points, a total usually good enough to finish in the top-six in the division.

Dallas spoke for the rest of the squad when he said the players along with the fans want Monk to remain in charge at Leeds.

“This summer is massive for the club,” Dallas told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“The club have got to build on what we`ve got here, starting with the management.

“You can see what everybody wants. The fans want it and the players want it. As players we`ve got to concentrate on ourselves and make sure we come back in the best condition we can, no matter who`s in charge, but we know who we want and I think the fans do as well.

“The players would love (Monk) to stay. He`s a joy to work under and hopefully he`ll be here next season. But it`s not down to the players to make that decision.”

It is expected to be a busy few weeks at Elland Road.

As well as the future of Monk being decided, Leeds must name their retained list before Saturday, with eleven professionals out of contract this summer.

Co-owner Radrizzani is also hoping to complete a full takeover of the club from fellow co-owner Massimo Cellino.
