Crewe Alexandra supporter and Vital network contributor Leedsrailwayman has given us the lowdown on our new signing from Gresty Road Luke Murphy.

How disappointed are you to see Murphy leave Crewe Alexandra?

Yes, I am disappointed to see him go, as he has been one of our main reasons for a successful 18 months.

However, it is how the club runs by bringing players through the youth team and they do right by the player and let them go when the time is right.

What is his best role?

His best position is as the playmaker in midfield, he keeps hold of the ball and uses it well and he pops up with the occasional goal.

What are his strengths and weaknesses?

His strength is probably his use of the ball and ability to fend off would be tacklers, although I would not call him a ball winner although he does have that in his game. Generally, he has decent ability in all aspects of his midfield play.

Weaknesses? There was none last season!

He seems to keep injury free. However the championship is a step up, but I think he will cope. Look at Ashley Westwood his former midfield partner; he has hardly missed a game for Villa.

Describe Murphy in three words?

Dependable, Quality and leader.
