Leeds United midfielder Adam Clayton believes he`s in the form of his career after starting the season in great form.

Clayton has come into the side after the departure of fellow midfielders Neil Kilkenny and Bradley Johnson during the summer and he has impressed with a number of man of the match performances.

The 22 year old signed from Manchester City last August. He made just four substitute appearances for Leeds before spending most of the season on loan at Peterborough United and then MK Dons.

Clayton now admits that the loan spells away from Elland Road worked in his favour and that he has come back a much better player for the experience. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Clayton said, “Hopefully it can continue. Last year wasn`t the best year for me, I went out on loan and gained some experience and now it looks like it`s paying off.
“I think I am playing some of the best football I have played so far, so hopefully it can continue.
“Last year I don`t think I was physically ready for the league and I think the manager knew that and he sent me out on loan and I got the experience I needed. I have come in, got fit, got strong and now I think I am physically capable of playing in this league.”

His great start to the season was epitomised on Sunday at West Ham United when he controlled the midfield area against the likes of Scott Parker, Mark Noble and Kevin Noble.

Clayton won the battle against the trio alongside Jonny Howson and now he is hoping that he can keep up the form and become a regular in Simon Grayson`s side. “Hopefully now I can continue and get a permanent place in his team and keep playing like that,” he continued.

He also notched his first goal in Leeds colours on Sunday when he fired home in the final minute of normal time to earn Leeds a point.

Clayton joined Leeds from Manchester City last summer for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal after initially joining on loan.
