LUFC – Christie’s delight

Malcolm Christie had the best Christmas present ever when he scored his first goal for Leeds United; it was his first League goal for over two years and his first in any competition since January 2007.

Christie came on as a substitute in the 3-1 victory at Stockport and wrapped the game up for Leeds with a sublime volley from an acute angle in the last five minutes.

The 29 year old striker who has been plagued by injury in recent seasons said on the official website “It`s great to score again, as people know I`ve had a rough time of it, but I`ve put a lot of hard work in and to score?.”

Christie was released by Middlesbrough after struggling with injury over the last few years and was given a chance to resurrect his career at Elland Road by regaining his fitness firstly under Dennis Wise and then Gary McAllister.

He signed a contract with the club in October but has struggled with a few niggling injuries since then which have seen him make only one start in the 5-2 victory at Northampton in the FA Cup and a few substitute appearances.

Christie was quick to want to share his delight at scoring with the fans who have encouraged him since joining the club, continuing he said “After all that`s gone on, you think it won`t go in, but when it hit the back of the net there was only one place I was going, and that was to the Leeds fans because they have been fantastic”

I am sure if Christie can keep fit then he`s going to be a valuable acquisition to the club and will push Jermaine Beckford and Luciano Becchio for their places.
It`s a great headache for the new boss to have.
