Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen says the club have made a good offer to striker Chris Wood to keep him at Elland Road.

Leeds have offered Wood a new three-year deal to hopefully warn off Premier League clubs having already turned down two bids from Burnley.

Wood was the spearhead of Leeds seventh placed finish last season with the striker finishing the season with 30 goals, claiming the golden boot in the Championship.

Christiansen wants the striker to stay, saying he wants the New Zealand international to help the club achieve their goals of a return to the Premier League.

“My intention is to keep Chris with us. I believe more in the player than in the money and I believe that he can help the team to achieve our goals,” Christiansen told The Yorkshire Evening Post..

“Finally, what will happen, we will see but the club have made a good effort and offer to keep him.

“I`ve been speaking to him about the situation and telling him to be focused on what he has to do – be 100 per cent in the game against Sunderland, forget about all the rumours and try to do his best on the pitch. It will all be for his benefit.”

Wood joined Leeds in the summer of 2015 on a four-year deal from Leicester City for a fee in the region of £3m, the most they had spent on a player since Nicky Barmby joined the club in 2002.

He has already gone a long way to showing his worth with 44 goals in 88 games for Leeds.
