Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen felt it was a perfect performance after knocking out Premier League side Burnley out of the Carabao Cup.

Leeds progressed through to the last 16 of the competition in a dramatic night at Turf Moor.

Leeds eventually won on penalties in a game that saw four goals in the final ten minutes of normal time, as Leeds twice went ahead and Christiansen admitted it was a terrible game for a coach to watch in the final ten minutes.

“A long night and it finished well,” Christiansen told Sky Sports.

“It was a perfect performance from the team knowing how difficult it would be against Burnley.

“It was a terrible game for a coach with so many things happening at the end in just a few minutes but in the end it finished well and I am proud of the players and the attitude they showed today.”

Hadi Sacko and Pablo Hernandez twice put Leeds ahead in the game in the final ten minutes. Sacko was found with a sublime pass from Hernandez and the winger drilled the ball past Nick Pope in the Burnley goal.

Burnley levelled with one minute remaining of normal time. Former Leeds striker Chris Wood scored from the penalty spot after Gaetano Berardi had been found guilty of holding in the area.

That goal looked to be sending the game into extra-time but there was still time for more drama. Hernandez put Leeds ahead for a second time in the third minute of injury time after Kemar Roofe had been held in the area.

Robbie Brady then ensured the game went into extra-time when he equalised in the sixth minute of injury time with a sweetly struck free-kick.

Leeds eventually went through as they converted all five of their penalties whilst Andy Lonergan saved a James Tarkowski penalty.
