New Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino says it was his advice to manager Brian McDermott that saw midfielder Luke Murphy in a new role and score twice in the weekend win over Blackpool.
Murphy scored both goals for Leeds in a 2-0 win that almost guarantees their survival in the championship this season.
The two goals for Murphy were his first since the opening day of the season and Cellino says Leeds boss Brian McDermott thanked him after the game after advising the Leeds boss to play him in a new role.
In an interview in the Corriere della Sera newspaper, Cellino said,“Luke Murphy is talented, he scored a brace against Blackpool. I had advised McDermott to play in him in that role and at the end the manager thanked me.”
The win over Blackpool was the first game Leeds had played since Cellino had completed his deal to takeover at Elland Road in a deal that saw his family run business, Eleonora Sports purchase a 75 per cent stake in the club.
Cellino is now busy preparing for life as the new Leeds owner with the repurchase of Elland Road and the Thorp Arch training ground top of his agenda. The Italian has also indicated that he would like to see Leeds return to the Premier League by 2016.
