Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino says he would like to see Nigel Gibbs stay with the club.

Gibbs was assistant manager Brian McDermott, who was dismissed as manager at the end of last month and Cellino is happy to continue working with the former Watford defender who worked with McDermott at both Reading and Leeds.

Speaking in the Yorkshire Evening Post , Cellino said, “I like Nigel.

“If he wants to stay with us and work with us then he can. He`s a nice guy, a good coach.”

Gibbs was put in temporary charge of Leeds for one game last season following the first dismissal of McDermott in January. Gibbs oversaw the 5-1 home win over Huddersfield Town before McDermott was reinstated.

Cellino could yet turn to Gibbs as he looks for a coach to replace McDermott. The Italian has been shocked by the compensation Reading are asking for his reported first choice Eamonn Dolan.
