Leeds United prospective new owner Massimo Cellino called the players chickens and he wanted to kick all their a***s after the 5-1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.
Cellino, who is still waiting for the Football League to ratify his 75 per cent controlling stake in the club, was scathing in his criticism as he watched the side hammered at home by Bolton to put another nail in the coffin of Leeds slender play-off hopes.
Speaking in the Sun, Cellino said, “What they did today, I would kick their a***s one by one. They are guilty.
“They were without pride and should be ashamed of themselves. They`re chickens and are much better than this.”
The Italian, who caused controversy on his arrival at Leeds when he sanctioned the sacking of manager Brian McDermott before the takeover was completed, only for him to be reinstated the following day by current owners GFH Capital, is now backing the manager despite the humiliating defeat. The defeat makes it just two wins in fourteen games in a run stretching back to December but Cellino is now backing the manager and putting the blame firmly at the feet of the players. “We didn`t even try to play and they made the fans ashamed. I feel so sorry for the supporters.
The players p****d me off because they didn`t fight. I blame them not Brian; I`d like to support him,” continued Cellino.
Ironically, McDermott welcomes his former club Reading to Elland Road on Tuesday night on the first anniversary of his sacking at the Madejski Stadium and a defeat to them would certainly end any lingering hopes he may have of a play-off place.
