Carlisle United are hoping to work something out with Leeds United over the next few days as Mike Grella and Lubomir Michalik come to the end of their loan spells.

Both players came to the end of their loan deals at Brunton Park today and both were involved in the sides 2-1 defeat at Tranmere Rovers.

Carlisle boss Greg Abbott is hoping to work something out with Leeds, as he is keen to keep the pair. Speaking on the Carlisle United official website, Abbott said, “We`re working away at getting definite answers on our loan players, and with Lubo and Mike we have had serious conversations with both.”

Grella still has one and a half years to run on his Elland Road contract and with first team chances limited they might want him to continue to gain experience away from Leeds.

The American striker has made eleven appearances since arriving on loan, scoring three goals.

The 23 year old has made just two appearances for Leeds this season when he came off the bench in the opening two games of the season.

Abbot is hoping that he can keep Grella but says his hands are tied until Leeds make a decision, “There`s a decision for Leeds United to make before we can try to do anything else,” he continued.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson told Michalik during the summer that he had no future at Elland Road and to actively look for a new club.

Carlisle came in for the Slovakian defender on loan, on the final day of the August transfer window, keeping him at Brunton Park until January 4th.

Michalik as impressed since arriving and has made fifteen appearances and chipping in with two goals.

Speaking about Michalik, Abbot said, “The situation with Lubo is that he is looking to earn himself a deal somewhere, not just for the remainder of this season but for the season after. His contract is up in the summer so he is thinking longer term.”

Leeds will also see a number of other players return to Elland Road over the course of this week with Liam Darville, Tom Elliott and Alan Martin coming to the end of their loans.

So far only Tom Lees, who was also due back this week as agreed a deal to stay out on loan for the remainder of the season with Bury, where he as made over twenty appearances in the first half of the season.
