Leeds United boss Simon Grayson was present at a behind closed doors friendly at Middlesbrough to see trialist Mikael Forssell make his first appearance in a Leeds shirt.

The former Premier League striker is currently with Leeds after being released by German Bundesliga side Hannover96 at the end of last season.

Grayson commented on Forssell`s performance when he spoke on the official website, “It was an opportunity to look at Mikael. Understandably, he`s a little bit short on match fitness, but he showed the qualities that we have seen before from him.”

Forssell was part of a strong reserve side that also included, Paul Rachubka, Andy O`Brien, Paul Connolly, Federico Bessone, Alex Bruce and Lloyd Sam.

Despite putting out a strong side, Leeds lost to Boro for the second time in a week, after letting a one goal lead slip. Leeds eventually lost 2-1 after Charlie Taylor had given Leeds the lead, with both Boro goals coming inside the final twenty minutes.
