Leeds United reported back for pre season training today (Thursday) and want away striker Jermaine Beckford participated with the rest of the squad.

Beckford who was put on the transfer list after turning down the offer of a new contract at the end of last season, still has one year left on his contract and could still be a big part of Leeds bid to get out of League One this coming season.

Leeds chairman Ken Bates speaking on Yorkshire Radio was happy to welcome back Beckford when he said “Jermaine remains at Leeds, he is our player, and he is an important part of our plans to win promotion this season”.

With a number of clubs rumoured to be chasing the 34 goal leading goalscorer from last season Bates hasn`t written off the chance of the striker staying with Leeds beyond this coming season, continuing he said “You can always sign extended and improved contracts at any stage of the season and that may be his decision if we are near the Championship places later in the season”.

Leeds fans are still waiting for news regarding the signing of Warren Feeney with the striker reported to be at Leeds on Wednesday for his medical.
Hearts of Midlothian have also been rumoured to be interested in the signing of the Cardiff City player.
