Leeds got their promotion challenge back on track with a well earned victory over fellow promotion hopefuls Peterborough United at Elland Road, their first at home since the end of November.

The big news before kick off was that on loan player Richard Naylor was given the captains armband and Jermaine Beckford returned to the substitute`s bench after missing the last few games through injury.

In a lively first half both sides had chances to take the lead, Boyd forced Ankergren into two tremendous save and at the other end Lewis produced two excellent saves to keep out Robinson.

Trundle almost gave Leeds the lead just before half time but his glancing header went wide.

Peterborough started brightly in the second half and the always dangerous Boyd shot over the bar when in a good position.

Simon Grayson made his first move close to the hour and brought on top scorer Jermaine Beckford to replace Becchio.

Beckford made an instant impact and after a Johnson`s free kick the keeper could only be parry the ball out to Beckford who was there to put Leeds ahead and score his 20th goal of the season.

Beckford double the lead within ten minutes when he coolly finished after being put through by Trundle.

Just when Leeds were contemplating keeping their first home clean sheet in seven attempts Peterborough got back into the game with ten minutes remaining, Boyd`s header hit the cross bar and Mackail – Smith was there to follow up.

That gave Leeds ten minutes to hang on to a crucial win, the fourth official put up four minutes of stoppage time to give Leeds more nervous moments, these were soon eased when Howson scored Leeds third to clinch the victory.

Its Leeds first back to back league wins since October, the victory moves Leeds back up to seventh place.

Leeds are soon back in action again when entertaining Southend United on Tuesday night.
